Cross-Battery Assessment

XBA Approach

Addresses assessment-related needs

Based on CHC theory

Purpose of the test

Technical Adequacy of the test

Comprehensive understanding

No associated norms

Bias status of administered batteries

Bias Status of the test

Interpretive bias

XBA approach allows practitioners to gain a more comprehensive understanding of an individual's cognitive abilities than can be obtained through a single-battery assessment.

The need to utilize a conceptual framework to direct any approach to assessment, [aiding] both in the selection of instruments and methods and in the interpretation of test findings.

Since practitioners select the batteries administered from the hundreds of batteries available to meet the specific needs of the examinee, the XBA is bound to the technical adequacy of the individual batteries selected.

The XBA is bound to the cultural, linguistic, and other biases of the batteries administered. Practitioners should carefully select culturally and linguistically appropriate test materials and interpret test results with cultural sensitivity to avoid test bias

Practitioners must use their professional judgment to classify an examinee’s areas of strength and weakness; therefore, the XBA procedures may be subject to interpretive bias.

This theory provides a comprehensive framework for understanding the structure of intelligence. The XBA approach is rooted in contemporary theory and research.
