getting a job in this industry can be heavily based on reputation. You typically start with your own music or music of those around you. As you hone your craft and building your reputation you can get more work as demand grows. Personally, I'm attempting to get an internship at a local studio to get a a kind of jumpstart with my carreer.
What They Do // Work Enviornment
The role of a studio engineer is to work with musicians to record, mix, and master songs ensuring the recording is up to each artists desired quality. When mixed with the role of producer the studio engineer becomes a much bigger part in the making of a track or album, providing artistic input and feedback. Studio engineer is a very broad title that has varying degrees of control over the final product. Many of them have more of an impact on the songs we love than we'd think, with them becoming sonic designers that create the identity of a given piece. The work environment is heavily influenced by the client-based nature of the job. You can commonly end up in a studio for 12+ hours working with other to make songs sound the best that they can. How hands-on each engineer is varies heavily from client to client, depending on their role in the creative proccess.
