NAPOLEONE Sta avanzando su più fronti, ma quando il padre propone la creazione di una milizia, composta da contadini, l'iniziativa viene respinta dall'imperatore austriaco e il padre cade in disgrazia.nell'ottobre del 1794 i francesi prendono Coblenza e la famiglia obbligata a rifugiarsi a Vienna. a Vienna cercano di ricostruirsi una reputazione quindi decidono di organizzare un matrimonio combinato con Maria Eleonore Kaunitz nipote di un potente ex ministro degli Asburgo; (il 27 settembre si celebrano le nozze).

La scelta della capitale austriaca come sede del congresso, a un peso politico notevole rappresentò il culmine della carriera di metter Nick, grazie a lui è riuscito a costruirsi una posizione preminente in Europa per tutta la durata del congresso (09-1814-21 05-1815)
