Show what something is not optional is a necessity.
We must show our passport at the aiport. I have to pay my phone bill soon. I need to work late tonight. I want to buy a new car.
Modals of Necessity
Must, have to, need to
Must: is the strongest and most serious modal verb. It is not utual use it in questions. It is used in futre tense and present simple tense.
Have to: is not as strong as must, it is used in informal speech in affirmative, negative and interrogative forms, it can be used in present, past and future tenses.
Need to: it shows a necessity to do something in affirmative form. It can be used in present, past and future tenses.
Examples
I must study tonightHe mustn´t be late for the meeting He has to finish his homework You don´t have to listen to pop music. I need to see you. I miss you I don´t need to go to the store today
