What are Modals Verbs?
They’re a type of auxiliary verbs also known as modal auxiliary verbs. They’re used next to the main verb of a sentence, the modal verbs express the mood of the subject and at the same time it can indicate possibility, necessity, ability, permission and more.Some of the most used modal verbs are:

Semi modal
The semi modal verbs are a group of verbs that function in a similar way to modal verbs, but they also can be used as main verbs. They have the same use as the modal verbs.

Characteristics
- They don’t change their form regardless of the subject.
- They are always followed by the infinitive of the main verb.
- They don’t have a third person singular form in present.
- They don’t have a past tense form.
- To form the negative we add not
The doctor said you musn´t go out of home. Will you run tomorrow? Are you able to go out of home? You must study hard. He should study more before class. They might go to the cinema tomorrow. They could play the piano from an early age. You don't have to go to class. I used to run everyday in the morning.
- Can/Could: They express ability, request and suggestion.
- Be able to: It expresses ability.
- Can’t: Something that’s certainly impossible
- May: It expresses permission, possibility and a formal request
- Might: They express possibility
- Should: It suggests advice, opinions and expectations.

- Be allowed to: Ability or permission to do something
- Must: Obligation
- Musn’t: Prohibition.
- Will: Indicate future actions or intentions
- Would: It expresses polite requests, preferences or hypothetical situations.
