Curatorial projects + Exhibitions program for emerging artists

Between 2013 and 2014, I organized a series of exhibitions for emerging and unknown artists witin the common areas of a hotel in San Telmo, Buenos Aires (halls lobby, cafeteria). The program aimed to feature artists that have either not been shown or have had only one show. The names included in the rooster are Sofia Piegari, Victoria Brandan, Becco Gugliemetti, Hernan Bataitto, Florencia Wajsman/Piccolina Macias, and Carla Santilli. The exhibitions were completed by a public program which included live music, concerts dinner parties, poetry reading, performances, and a community-oriented contest to win artworks.

Victor Rebuffo. Impressions of a modern man

As part of my graduate school program in Curatorial Studies, I co-curated a show about famous Argenitne engraver Victor Rebuffo. The exhibition, result of a resarch project developed in a period of eight months, took over the galleries at MUNTREF Caseros to present the production of Rebuffo in a different light, approaching his practice as print-maker and the specificities of the medium in my country. The show was a critical success and it became one the most visited exhibition at MUNTREF that year. Victor Rebuffo was known for his politically engaged topics and a fierce critique to Argentina's unequeal distribution of wealth.

Imaginary/Identitary

I curated this show with artworks by Juan Pablo Gochez, a visual artist from Misiones, Argentina. The main purpose was to show his identity, as a Misionero and as a descendant of Ukranian immigrants that settled in the province of the north of the country and developed a small yerba mate business. The show included two different productions: a series of digitally enhanced and intervened photographs that depicted people whose heads were changed for those of animals, and a group of four installations that related more specifically to Gochez's roots and family history. For example, an installation where we can see the boots that his father uses to work the field traced by a path of the typical red soil from Misiones. Or a suitcase that his grandparents brought from Ukraine that would fill the room with traidtional songs from their hometown.

En el borde(r)

This exhibition included artowrks by Rosario Zorraquin, Martin Sichetti, Diego Figueroa, Catalina Schliebener, Valentin Demarco, Mario Scorzelli, and Veronica Madanes, all emerging and mid-career contemporary artists from Argentina that have received honors and awards. The show played with the notion of borders (limits, frontiers) and borderline personalities, a topic most of the selected artists toggle. The topcis of the show included the limits of art and non-art, the (non) borders of gender identities, and mental health issues derived from contemporary living. The Museum is located in a traditional 19th century building that has been declared Cultural Patrimony of the Nation, and therefore cannot be modified in any way. This posed a difficulty for installation, which was resolved by maximizing wall space and using the floor to connect the narrative through the display of devaluated coins spread around the gallery.

Barbara T. Smith Alfredo Boulton Expriments in Art and Technoloy

At the Getty, I was involved in three exhibitions by modern and contemporary artists: Barbara T. Smith: The way to be (2022), Alfredo Boulton: looking at Venezuela (2023), and Sensorial Collaborations: Experiments in Art and Technology (2024). I worked with the Modern and Contemporary Curatorial team performing bibliography and thematic research, object selection, gallery design, label writing, acquisition research and requests, and guiding small tours. I maintained checklists, managed digital imaging requests, and collaborated with various departments (Conservation, Special Collections, Publications, Digital Imaging, Preps, Design, Communications, and Public Programming). One of my biggest achievements was to manage and coordinate the publication that will complement next year’s exhibition for the PST Art Initiative: Art and Science Collide, about Experiments in Art and Technology.

Various projects (solo and group shows)

At Pablo Bogdan Modern and Contemporary, I was able to curate a total of five shows, including two solo exhibitions by renowned photographer Marcos Lopez and visual artist Walter Erra Hubert, along with group shows by emerging, mid-career, and established artists from Argentina, Mexico, Armenia, Russia, Hong Kong, United States, and South Korea. The projects were the result of collaborations between myself, the artists and the gallerist, where final artwork selection and gallery design emerged from conversations with all parties, The resulting shows were very organic, and there was a general sense of balance and a shared collaborative energy. The topics of the exhibitions were heterogeneous and included issues such as regional identities and representation (for example, of the "Argentine people", questions about the limits of art and the experimental and sensory nature of most artworks, as well as environmental and political concerns.
