01. The Motivation Cycle

Need

This is the first stage of the motivational cycle. A need is a state of physical deprivation that causes tension within an organism, which tends to organize the field of the organism concerning certain incentives or goals and to incite activity toward their attainment.

After the accomplishment of a goal, there is a reduction in drive, and at last, the organism achieves a balanced state as the needs are fulfilled. Arousal is then reduced as a result of the cycle.

Achievement

Need gives rise to drive. The concept of drive is used to mean that the organism is particularly sensitive to certain stimulations and usually is driven to activity. Drive is defined as a state of arousal that energizes us to take action that will help us accomplish our goals.

Achievement within the motivation cycle involves setting and pursuing specific goals, driven by a desire for success. It leads to heightened arousal, focused behaviors, and improved cognitive processes. Success or setbacks provide feedback that can either reinforce the motivation to continue or prompt adjustments in pursuit of the goal.

Arousal in the motivation cycle refers to the state of alertness and physiological readiness when a stimulus triggers a response. Arousal is a critical aspect of understanding how motivation impacts our actions and decision-making.

The activity is a goal-directed behavior that continues until the person reaches that goal. This behavior is driven by the drive and continues until the goal is achieved.

They realize the positive impact it has had on their health and well-being and decide to continue their fitness and nutrition regimen.

They start highly motivated after a doctor's visit where they were advised to make lifestyle changes.

Achievement

As time goes on, Alex reaches their weight loss goal. This achievement brings a tremendous sense of accomplishment, reinforcing their motivation to maintain their healthy lifestyle.

This motivation leads them to join a gym and start a healthy eating plan.

They see progress in their weight loss journey, and this boosts their confidence. They start enjoying their workouts and find healthier food options that they genuinely like.

They seek support from a personal trainer and a nutritionist, who provide guidance and encouragement.
