SOME GRAMMARTIPS

I SUPERLATIVI servono per esprimere la superiorità di un elemento rispetto a un gruppo (superlativo relativo). Si utilizza con gli aggettivi. COME SI FORMA? A differenza del comparativo, il superlativo non ha il THAN ma, davanti all’aggettivo ha l’articolo THE. - Se l’aggettivo è breve (monosillabo o bisillabo che termina in –y) il superlativo si forma aggiungendo EST all’aggettivo (se termina in -y, questa diventa una -i). Esempio: Arsenal is the strongest team in the world. - Se l’aggettivo è bisillabo o superiore il superlativo si forma aggiungendo MOST davanti all’aggettivo. Esempio: French is the most difficult subject Ci sono alcuni superlativi irregolari 1.good - the best. 2.bad - the worst. 3. far - the farthest/the furthest.

I COMPARATIVI si possono utilizzare con aggettivi e avverbi per mettere in relazione le qualità o caratteristiche di due elementi (persone, animali, cose, ecc…). COME SI FORMA? Innanzitutto, i due elementi in relazione sono divisi da un THAN (occhio a come si scrive) - Se l’aggettivo è breve (monosillabo o bisillabo che termina in –y) il comparativo si forma aggiungendo -er all’aggettivo (attenzione se c’è la -y a fine aggettivo o avverbio- se è preceduto da vocale manteniamo la y, altrimenti la y diventa i. Esempio: I am happier than you - Se l’aggettivo è bisillabo o superiore il comparativo si forma aggiungendo more davanti all’aggettivo. Esempio: My car is more expensive than yours. Ci sono alcuni comparativi irregolari: 1. good - better. 2. bad - worse. 3. far - farther/further

COMPARATIVO DI MINORANZA Si forma SEMPRE aggiungendo la parola less davanti all’aggettivo. Non è molto utilizzato, si preferisce utilizzare un aggettivo al comparativo di maggioranza. I am less happy than you. — I am sadder than you COMPARATIVO DI UGUAGLIANZA I am as tall as you. — Sono alto quanto te. Si forma “circondando” l’aggettivo alla sua forma normale con “as…as”.
