WHAT IS IT?
Cotton is a seed-hair fibre of several species of plants of the genus Gossypium, belonging to the hibiscus, or mallow, family
Uses of Cotton
It is a soft white, seed hair, fibrous substance which surrounds the seeds of the cotton plant and is made into textile fibre and thread for sewing
Cotton has many uses from being a main component in the clothing industry to having more practical uses such as fishing nets, coffee filters and even cotton paper
Cotton fibres are natural hollow fibres; they are soft, cool, known as breathable fibres and absorbent. Cotton fibres can hold water 24–27 times their own weight. They are strong, dye absorbent and can stand abrasion wear and high temperature. In one word, cotton is comfortable.

- gossypium barbadense(AKA sea island cotton, derive from Ecuador and Peru)
- gossypium hirsutum( AKA 'mexican cotton'90% of all cotton production derive from this)
- gossypium herbaceum(native to Saharan Africa and Arabia)
- gossypium arboretum(tree cotton, native to subtropical countries e.g India, Pakistan)
