The ILO wants to pursue its mandate in an environmentally sustainable manner, to reduce and mitigate any negative impacts on the environment, and to improve the ILO's environmental performance towards the goal of achieving climate neutrality.

ILO environmental sustainability action plan
  • Through the Office-wide Environmental Sustainability Committee (ESC), the ILO Environmental Sustainability Action Plan is formulated each biennium to record the objectives and priorities within ILO programmes, projects, and operations. It establish targets, outcomes, and indicators for the biennium.
  • Decent Work Country Programmes (DWCP) and CPOs include references to a just transition to environmental sustainability.
  • Important progress has been achieved in the greening of ILO operations and facilities, with reductions in water use and waste generation, and significant gains in energy efficiency.
