How LEarning occurs

Self Monitoring and Self-reflcting in the classroom

1. Checklist with student's most common mistakes Students can have an individual folder that has their common mistakes (use smiley faces, sad faces, or a scale to track their progress). This can be for all students or specifically for behavior students or students who perform low academically. 2. Identify their purposeStudents should understand the purpose of their academics and behavior 3. Stop and reflectStudents should stop, review, and reflect on their academic performance and behavior. They should understand how they can produce negative and positive outcomes

Acquiring knowledge can occur in many different ways. All students do not acquire information the same. Some students do better in person in a classroom while others may do better in an online environment. Howard Gardner brought this societies attention when he introduced Multiple intelligences. He believed that not all students learned the same and that there were multiple ways to teach and learn. This is shown today whether students are in a more structured setting like the classroom or in an independent setting like a virtual

webs to help students organize their thoughts. ZPD is a great way to guide students through their thinking to reach a level of independence.

Teaching Practices that support various learning styles
Student-centered Students are the primary focus. Teachers facilitate the learning. Students' input is prioritized. They choose what to learn, how to learn, and how to be assessed. This creates a safe classroom environment. Students will also be engaged in learning. This will help students develop critical thinking skills and learn how to ask and answer questions. Teacher-centered The teacher controls the learning experience and students have fewer opportunities to interact with other students or think aloud. (Ex: Lecturing)
  • Use graphic organizers, flow charts, and webs to help students organize thoughts and ideas
  • Have students circle unfamiliar words and use context clues to possibly find the meaning of words
  • Collaboration with other students
  • include enrichment activities and higher-order thinkng questions for students who are on or above grade level
Schema and Constructivism

Jean Piaget brought to light the strategies of schema and constructivism. Students use what they already know and connect new knowledge to an existing schema. He believed students learn by doing. I use this in my classroom. I model the expectations and allow students to do it independently.

Zone Proximal Development (ZPD) and Scaffolding

Faculty of genially

Lev Vygotsky is a well-known theorist in education. His methods of Zone Proximal Development (ZPD) and scaffolding are great strategies to support students in the classroom. Scaffolding is changing the level of support to meet the ability of the child. This is a great way to incorporate using graphic organizers, flow charts, and
