Computers in 1950
Characteristics: The main electronic component used in the computers of the 1950s to 1960s era were transistors. The main memory storing units were magnetic tape or disk and magnetic core. The sizes were smaller as compared to those of the first generation and they used to consume low power and generate less heat.
Computers in 1980
Characteristics: Machines with rubber keyboards Blocky graphics Beepy sound Less processing power than the cheapest mobile phone of today.
Computers in 1970
Characteristics: The main electronic components used in the fourth generation of computers are microprocessors and very large scale integration (VLSI). When thousands of transistors are attached to a single microchip, it is known as VLSI. Semiconductor memory storage units such as RAM, ROM, etc were introduced.
Whats new?
Nanotechnology, electric vehicles, renewable energy, quantum computing and slicker, smarter consumer electronics – just some of the fields in which the rollercoaster of human technological development continues to gather pace each year ... and 2010 was no exception
Computers in 2000
Characteristics: The year 2000 problem, also commonly known as the Y2K problem, Y2K scare, millennium bug, Y2K bug, Y2K glitch, Y2K error, or simply Y2K refers to potential computer errors related to the formatting and storage of calendar data for dates in and after the year 2000.
Computers in 1960
Characteristics: The main electronic components used in the computers of the era 1060s to 1970s were integrated circuits ICs. The memory storing units were the magnetic disk or take and a large magnetic core. High-level languages such as BASIC, COBOL, Pascal were used as the programming language. The sizes were smaller and efficient and the computers were called minicomputers.
Computers in 1990
Characteristics: They had large monitors and keyboards that took up a lot of space. The internet was not widely used yet, so most people used their computers for basic tasks like word processing and playing simple games.
Benefits
Speed, Accuracy, Diligence, Versatility, Reliability, Consistency, Memory, Storage Capacity, Remembrance Power, and Automation
Computers in 1940 to 1950
Characteristics: The main electronic component used in the computers of the 1940s to 1950s era were vacuum tubes. The main memory storing units were magnetic tapes and magnetic drums. The sizes used to be very large which could take up entire rooms and the speed was very slow.
