DEMOCRITUS
Democritus believed that atoms were uniform, solid, hard, incompressible, and indestructible and that they moved in infinite numbers through empty space until stopped. Differences in atomic shape and size determined the various properties of matter. He never described how atoms looked like.
DALTON
Dalton said that matter is made of small indivisible atoms and that they can’t be subdivided, created or destroyed. He also stated that atoms of the same element have the same property and atoms of different elements have different properties Also, atoms of different elements can form compounds. To support this theory, Dalton did various experiments on pressure and researched the properties of compounds.
Thomson
Summary. J.J. Thomson's experiments with cathode ray tubes showed that all atoms contain tiny negatively charged subatomic particles or electrons. Thomson proposed the plum pudding model of the atom, which had negatively-charged electrons embedded within a positively-charged "soup."
RUTHERFORD
He believed that atoms were mostly empty space. He said that most of the mass is concentrated in the center of atom. In a tiny, dense, positively charged core called a nucleus. And, because of this, the electrons were outside of the nucleus and they moved around it. To prove this, he did the gold foil experiment, which consisted on aiming some particles at a piece of foil. Most particles passed through the foil, but a few were scattered backward. This showed that most of the atom is empty space surrounding a tiny nucleus.
Niehls Bohr
In the year 1913, Niels Bohr proposed an atomic structure model, describing an atom as a small, positively charged nucleus surrounded by electrons that travel in circular orbits around the positively charged nucleus like planets around the sun in our solar system, with attraction provided by electrostatic forces
Schrodinger
With Heisenberg they studied how eletrons work. They said that electrons don't move around the nucleus in orbits. They exist in specific energy levels as a cloud. This cloud is the region of negative charges, which surrounds the nucleus. He developed an equation to predict where an electron would be in an atom.
