Claim Testing...

As a new parent, my wife was quite typical—terrified of messing up, constantly Googling questions she had, asking everyone we knew for advice, and hoping for the best.

Once our daughter started crawling, my wife became worried about anything she could possibly find on the floor and put in her mouth.

Toys, dirt, food— clean as much as you want, but you’re bound to miss something. Eventually, it got me thinking of an unwritten rule I had lived by most of my life: the Five Second Rule

The “rule” that states that as long as you retrieve dropped food off the ground within five seconds, it’s safe to eat.

If we dropped something on the floor and my daughter found it and put it in her mouth (or if my wife wasn’t looking, and I dropped it on the floor and gave it to my daughter anyway) would it truly be safe if she ingested it, as long as it was within five seconds?

If we dropped something on the floor and my daughter found it and put it in her mouth (or if my wife wasn’t looking, and I dropped it on the floor and gave it to my daughter anyway) would it truly be safe if she ingested it, as long as it was within five seconds?

1. Do you think it is safe to follow the Five Second Rule?

Nope. Nope. nope. nope.

YES! Go for it, she'll be fine!

2. Why or why not?

Why is it that you believe what you do?

Is the source credible? Can you trust them?

VS

In this course, and in everyday life, we encounter assertions or claims. At times, we believe we can take these at face value, but more and more, it is important to question and test the claims that we come across.

In other words, we need to decide if the claims are true, so we can determine what to believe.

In this course, we use what we call claim testers to help us check the soundness and strength of our beliefs. The four claim testers are intuition, authority, logic, and evidence.

Got an idea?

Let the communication flow!

With Genially templates, you can include visual resources to wow your audience. You can also highlight a particular sentence or piece of information so that it sticks in your audience’s minds, or even embed external content to surprise them: Whatever you like! Do you need more reasons to create dynamic content? No problem! 90% of the information we assimilate is received through sight and, what’s more, we retain 42% more information when the content moves.

  • Generate experiences with your content.
  • It’s got the Wow effect. Very Wow.
  • Make sure your audience remembers the message.
