  • Persistant deficits in social communication and interaction
  • Restricted/repetitive behaviors/interests (RRBs)

Social Communication & Interaction

Autism affects all 3:

  • Can talk and use gestures, but has difficulties in doing them at the same time

children in the US have Autism

Doing our part

As future SLPs, we will encounter and work with autistic people. It's important to see autism as part of who they are and part of what makes them special. Each autistic individual is different and has a different set of needs and wants. It's important to advocate and meet the needs of this population to make a difference in their lives.
