Goverment and politics

  • New York known as New Amsterdam, was the capital of New Netherland under Dutch rule.
  • The Dutch selected Peter Minuit to be the governor of New Amsterdam.
  • In 1664 the British took over New Amsterdam and renamed it New York.
  • 1664 - 1686 it was a proprietary colony.
  • -1689 - 1776 it became a Royal colony.
  • -Joined the United states july 26th 1788

  • The Dutch was the first to settle along the Hudson River in 1624.
  • The dutch established the first colony called New Amsterdam.
  • In 1664 the English took control of the land and renamed it New York.
  • New York played a big part in the 13 colonies and in the American Revolution.
