Past tenses
Simple Past: You use this to say something happened and finished in the past. Like, "I ate breakfast today."
Past Continuous: This shows something that was happening at a certain time in the past. For example, "I was playing when it started raining."
Past Perfect: You use this to talk about something that happened before something else in the past. Like, "I had already finished my homework when my friends came over."
These past tenses help us tell stories about things that happened in the past.
Prepositions
Prepositions like "in," "on," and "at" help us understand where things are located or when something happens. Here's a quick explanation with three examples for each:
In: We use "in" when something is inside a space or area.
- The cat is in the box.
- She lives in the city.
- We have a surprise in the bag.
On: "On" is used when something is directly touching or covering a surface.
- The book is on the table.
- The picture is on the wall.
- My keys are on the desk.
At: "At" tells us the specific location or point in time.
- We'll meet at the park.
- The party is at 7 PM.
- I'm waiting at the bus stop.
These prepositions help us describe where things are or when events happen in relation to a place or time.
Narrative tenses
Narrative tenses help us tell stories and talk about past events in an interesting way. Here are three types:
Past Simple: We use this to describe the main events in a story. For example, "She entered the haunted house."
Past Continuous: This tense helps us set the scene or describe actions that were happening when something else occurred. Like, "While they were walking through the forest, they heard a strange noise."
Past Perfect: We use this to show an action that happened before the main events in the story. For instance, "Before the storm hit, they had already packed their bags."
These tenses make our stories more engaging by letting us share events in the right order and add details to our narratives.
