When do we use the past simple?
We use the past simple to talk about that began and ended in the past.

It is often used with the past time expressions
- last night/last week/last monday/last month
- last year/last christmas
- an hour ago/five days ago/a week ago/a month ago
- The day before yesterday
- yesterday/yesterday morning/yesterday afternoon/yesterday evening
- This morning
- At night/at 3 o'clock
- in 2000/in March
- On Monday/On Tuesday/On the weekend
- last night/last week/last monday/last month
- last year/last christmas
- an hour ago/five days ago/a week ago/a month ago

- This morning

The past simple for regular verbs is the same for all persons. We just need to add -ed
I/you/he/she/it/we/you/they watched tv.
Remember that we don't use the past simple form of the main verb in negative sentences or questions
Did he move to the US? (NOT "DID HE MOVED TO THE US?)
He didn't move to the US. (NOT "HE DIDN'T MOVED TO THE US)
AFFIRMATIVE SENTENCES
Subject + verb in past simple + c
- I went to the music store = Fui a la tienda de música (irregular verb)
- I made a delicious dinner = Yo hice una cena deliciosa (irregular verb)
- I rented a house by the beach = Yo renté una casa cerca de la playa (regular verb)
- He fixed my bike= Él arregló mi bicicleta (regular verb)
NEGATIVE SENTENCES
Subject + did not (didn't) + verb in base form+ c
- I didn't go to the music store = Yo no fui a la tienda de música (irregular verb)
- I didn't make a delicious dinner = Yo no hice una cena deliciosa (irregular verb)
- I didn't rent a house by the beach = Yo no renté una casa cerca de la playa (regular verb)
- He didn't fix my bike= Él no arregló mi bicicleta (regular verb)
INTERROGATIVE SENTENCES
Auxiliary Did + subject + verb in base form+ c + ?
- Did I go to the music store? = ¿Yo fui a la tienda de música? (irregular verb)
- Did I make a delicious dinner? = ¿Yo hice una cena deliciosa? (irregular verb)
- Did I rent a house by the beach? = ¿Yo renté una casa cerca de la playa? (regular verb)

SPELLING RULES FOR REGULAR PAST SIMPLE VERBS
Most verbs add -ed
- walk - walked
- wash - washed
- talk - talked
Verbs ending in -e add -d
- like - liked
- decide - decided
- hate - hated
Verbs ending in a consonant + Y change the -y to -i and add -ed
- study - studied
- fly - flied
- carry - carried
Verbs ending in a vowel + Y add -ed as usual
- play - played
One syllable verbs ending in a single consonant after a single vowel Doble the final consonant and add -ed
- Stop - stopped
- plan - planned
- hop - hopped
- clap - clapped
