Romancticism

John Keats-Had written many poems, such as "La Belle Dame Sans Merci", "Ode To A Nightingale", "Ode On a Gecian Urn", and "I Have Fears That I May Cease To Be"

The Romantic Period was a Time of competing philosophies and had many poets.

Henry Wadsworth Longfellow-He wrote "Song of Hiawatha", "Footsteps of An Angel", and Mezzo Cammin"

Lord Byron- He created the term Byronic Hero. He also wanted to help the Greeks, but he died from a fever before he could see any combat.

The Renaissance

The Renaissance was almost like a Rebirth. Intellectuals adopted a line of thought know as Humanism, is where mankind was believed capable of earthly perfection beyond what had ever been imagined before.

William Shakespear had and exquisite use of language, Shakespear is known for his ability to switch between comedy and tragedy.

The English language was disdaind and the English philosipher Thomas More published "Utopia" in latin.

Geoffrey Chaucer-The Father of English Literature. Geoffrey Chaucer was an english author, philosopher, diplomat, and poet

The middle ages literature includes genres and themes such as philosophy, poetry, drama, romance, and symbolism.

Dante-an Italian Florentine poet. His greatest work, ‘La Divina Com media’ or The Divine Comedy, is considered the greatest literary masterpiece produced in Europe in the Medieval Period, and the basis of the modern Italian language.

Enlightenment

The Enlightenment is sometimes reffered to as the Age of Reason

The Enlightenment was a a clebration of ideas, ideas of what the human mind was capable of.

  • Isaac Newton- Was a pure scientist
  • Francis Bacon- Was a Logician
  • Alexander Pope- A contraversial figure
  • Voltaire- Made arguments for Reform
  • Jean-Jacques Rousseau- Strong Advocate for social reform
Modernism

The period was marked by sudden and unexpected breaks with traditional ways of viewing and interacting with the world. Hilda Doolittle and Amy Lowell became leaders of the Imagist movement.

Victorian

The Victorian Era was a Time of Change, and Society had been shook by the rapid change.

Charlotte and Emliy Brontë crafted novels that have stood the test of time, and taken their place as literary classics.
