Main issue

To what extent does the education system in the US intertwine knowledge and business? How can education embody the idea of the American dream?

Final Task

  • A: EOC – You are a graduating student in a US University of your choice. TED Talk has invited you because they think you have great ideas concerning education in the US. Create a two-minute presentation on how students’ lives could be improved. You can, of course, give some examples of the universities that we studied in class.
  • B: EOC – You are a journalist for the BBC. Present an innovative American University (one we did NOT study in class, of course!) and an American technologist with big ideas about education (Bill Gates, Jeff Bezos, Elon Musk, Mark Zuckerberg). It will be a two-minute presentation.

II – Innovations: knowledge circulation

  • Write a report of the video. What is its main goal?
  • Do you have any examples of how we can share knowledge? Where can we learn?

Oral Presentation: American universitiesSelect any university in the US (whether it is an Ivy League institution, a state university, or a community college). Make a presentation of it: where is it located? How is campus life? Are there any famous people who studied there? What does it take to enter this university (price, grades, SAT...)? Don't forget to show pictures of the college so that we can all see what it's like to attend classes there!

L'expression du but

On peut exprimer le but au moyen d'une proposition infinitive en to + V, en in order to + V ou en so as (not) to + V. On traduit toutes ces structures par pour + infinitif. The students have worked in order to obtain great results. Il est également possible d'utiliser une proposition introduite par so that ou par in order that (afin que, pour que). Dans ce cas, la proposition contient souvent un modal tel que can, could ou may. They all brought their book so that they could read together. Notez aussi les structures suivantes : - aim to do something - be designed/meant intended to + V ou for + N This blog is intended to provide useful information about e-learning tools.
