Health, Safety & Identity Resources

Module 6: Reintegrate

You will have the opportunity to attend events with other returning students, unpack the enriching and transformative experience, and become a Global Ambassador. Resources on Canvas will help you navigate "Re-Entry" and complete a post-program assessment.

Module 4: pre-Departure Orientation

All students will complete SU's comprehensive orientation covering health, safety, and cultural engagement considerations. This orientation is supplemented by optional topical sessions, identity-based workshops, and Send-Off celebration as part of Take Flight Month in May.

Module 3: Prepare

After being accepted to a program, you will have important program and country-specific steps. This may include:

  • Submitting courses for approval
  • Completing steps for your Host University/Program Provider
  • Obtaining a student visa from your host country (if applicable)

What's a student visa? Learn about student visas and what this could entail

Module 1: Explore
  • Attend a Planning Meeting with your Education Abroad Advisor to discern a good fit program and plan-out next steps
  • Connect with others in your support network, e.g. your Academic Advisor, personal supporters, and others important to your planning process
  • Apply for or renew your passport well in advance of going abroad; passports must be valid for at least 6 months after your planned return

Learn how to apply for a passport if you are a U.S. citizen.

Module 5: While Abroad

Now you go abroad and it makes all the steps you've taken worth it!On Canvas, there are additional resources:

Module 2: Apply

Application steps vary by program type:

  • SU-Sponsored & Exchange: apply through the application in Module 2 by February 1 of the prior academic year; there is one hard deadline for Fall, Winter, and Spring programs
  • Faculty-Led: apply through Faculty Leader(s) by their deadline
  • Non-SU: apply through the Host University/Program Provider by their individual deadline and complete SU's general Non-SU application by the

term-specific deadline
