AVID SIte Plan

2023-2024

Site Team Meetings

Create a Plan

Monthly meetings will be added to the Staff Calendar

Define action steps, determine the evidence used to monitor progress, establish a timeline, and identify resources needed to support and advance the work.

Goals & Action Steps

Establishing outcome-based goals to drive AVID implementation. A purpose-driven AVID implementation positions AVID as a means to an end; AVID itself is not the goal

Goal

CCI

A measurable student outcome indicative or directly correlated to students’ college and career readiness.

Coaching and Certification Instrument

Action Step

A specific effort critical to the attainment of an identified college and career readiness outcome.

Site Goals

For each college and career readiness goal for your site, ensure that the goal is clearly defined, measurable, aligned to the AVID Coaching and Certification Instrument (CCI), and integrated with school and district plans. The CCI is the primary resource and coaching guide of the AVID College and Career Readiness Framework.

1. Instruction 2. Leadership 3. Culture 4. Systems

The CCI is comprised of two types of indicators:

  • Indicators that address student outcomes and can be used when developing goals.
  • Indicators that focus on educator actions and can be selected when determining action steps to meet goals.

Site Goal #1

1. Instruction

Plan – Goal 1What is the identified goal? What is the intended student outcome?

  • By Spring 2024, 70% of 2nd-5th grade students will be able to independently take notes, add to their notes and review/apply their notes using the Layering Process of STAR Notes. This can include Thinking Maps, 2 and 3 Column Notes, Marking the Text, Costa’s Levels of Questioning, One-pagers and Frayer Models.

Resources

What resources will we use to advance this goal? Consider the resources in MyAVID (i.e., eLearning, Core Strategies, APLM).

  • Teachers will collect student work samples for review at each trimester.
  • AVID Elementary Foundations: A Schoolwide Implementation Resource
  • The STAR Strategies pg. 18-25
  • Costa’s Levels of Questioning pg. 69-91
  • Marking the Text pg. 315-317
  • Frayer Model pg. 357-364

What CCI Domains/Indicators align with this goal? Domains: INSTRUCTION Indicators: 1 - Learning Through Writing 3 - Focused Note-Taking 4 - Higher Level Thinking 11 - Critical Reading Process

Action Steps for Goal #1 Instruction

What must educators do to accomplish this goal? What action steps do we think will generate improvement? Who will be involved and what will they do?

  • Teachers will model various note-taking strategies through multiple exposures. As teachers gradually release note-taking, students will have the opportunities to produce notes independently. Teachers will set the note-taking criteria and expectations. Coordinator and coaches will provide training, modeling and support as needed.

  • By the end of Trimester 1, 30% of students in grades 2-5 will be able to take notes, add on to the notes as modeled by the teacher and/or apply their notes to a classroom activity (i.e. create a word problem, solve a problem or write a summary).
  • By the end of Trimester 2, 50% of students in grades 2-5 will be able to take notes, add on to the notes independently and apply their notes to a classroom activity (i.e. create a word problem, solve a problem or write a summary).
  • By the end of Trimester 3, 70% of students in grades 2-5 will be able to take notes, add on to the notes independently and apply their notes to a classroom activity (i.e. create a word problem, solve a problem or write a summary).

Evidence for Site Goal #1 Instruction

What evidence will we use, and what data will we track to measure progress toward desired student outcomes? What evidence will we use to measure effectiveness of educator actions?

Student Evidence
Teacher Evidence

Evidence of Educator Actions

  • Teachers assess students’ understanding of content through the use of note-taking (i.e. calculating 30%, 50% and 70% of students demonstrating success through classroom activities). Use a class list to identify students who are able to apply their learning from the notes to an activity.

Evidence of Student Outcomes

  • Student samples of note taking, with structures for organization (i.e. 2 columns or 3 columns, thinking maps, one pagers).
  • Different colors to signify adding to the notes.
  • Student samples of using the notes to apply their learning.

Site Goal #2

2. Leadership

Plan – Goal 2 What is the identified goal? What is the intended student outcome? By Spring 2024, the AVID mission and vision has been shared in at least 5 different areas (physical and digital) for stakeholders (parents, students, teachers). AVID Mission Statement for Lincoln: Lincoln’s Mission Statement is to close the opportunity gap by preparing all students for college and career readiness and success in a global society.

Resources

What CCI Domains/Indicators align with this goal? Domains: LEADERSHIP Indicators: 1- School Mission and Vision are Aligned with AVID 2- Communicate School Mission and Vision to Stakeholders

What resources will we use to advance this goal? Consider the resources in MyAVID (i.e., eLearning, Core Strategies, APLM).

  • Social media
  • Parent meetings
  • Teacher PDs

Action Steps for Goal #2 Leadership

What must educators do to accomplish this goal? What action steps do we think will generate improvement? Who will be involved and what will they do?

  • Post the AVID Mission Statement in these public spaces: Classrooms, Front Office, Media, Staff meetings, Announced at all parent meetings, Library, Computer Lab and Cafeteria

  • By December 2023, the mission statement will be posted in all 8 public spaces and shared at meetings.
  • By Spring 2024, a survey will be administered to stakeholders addressing the mission and vision for AVID through Schoology (students), ParentSquare (parents), Google (or cloze sentences for teachers).

Evidence for Site Goal #2 Leadership

What evidence will we use, and what data will we track to measure progress toward desired student outcomes? What evidence will we use to measure effectiveness of educator actions?

Student Evidence
Teacher Evidence

Evidence of Student Outcomes

  • Students samples of their understanding of the AVID mission through:
    • Cloze sentences
    • One pagers
    • Surveys

Evidence of Educator Actions

  • Cloze sentences
  • Delivering parent surveys at parent meetings
  • Teacher survey

Site Goal #3

3. Culture

Plan: Goal 3 What is the identified goal? What is the intended student outcome? By Spring 2024, students are receiving rigorous instructional opportunities through WICOR utilizing AVID strategies school-wide.

What CCI Domains/Indicators align with this goal? Domains: CULTURE Indicators: WICOR Scaffolding and Rigorous Instructional Practices

Action Steps for Goal #3 Culture

What must educators do to accomplish this goal? What action steps do we think will generate improvement?Who will be involved and what will they do?

  • Teachers will analyze a lesson during grade level collaboration to ensure the lesson has rigor by using WICOR.
