Introduction

What is it about?

Global Perspectives develops transferable skills that support learners in their studies and in their everyday life. Learners develop skills through age appropriate and engaging activities that are based on a broad range of topics. They explore personal, local and global perspectives to make sense of, and feel connected to, the world around them.

Learning Objectives

Listen to ideas and information and offer relevant and well-judged contributions that demonstrate understanding of the issue.

Make some links between causes and consequences of an issue at personal, local and global levels.

Classroom expectations

• If you didn't come to class, you will justify your absence (support with parents or doctor's excuse). In the case we've had an activity in class (most of the time), you will look for the teacher in the break time and don't wait until next class. You will, in fact, hand me the acivity in the next class.
• In Lauretta Bender we support athletes, if you have an external activity involving sports you will be given the opportunity to submit the class activity later on, however, you will give the teacher a prior notice.
• Every activity has a deadline, if you didn't meet it, your grade will be affected in this way:-one day late, maximum grade: 4.0

-two days late, maximum grade: 3.5

• We will respect and value everyone's perspectives, even if we do not agree. We will encourage everyone to speak and to explain their reasoning.
• We will listen attentively and kindly to one another and remain open-minded. We will not interrupt when others are speaking.
• We understand that our perspectives may change and that changing our minds or making mistakes can be an important part of the learning process.
• No standing in the classroom without asking permission first, for which you need a valid reason. If you need anything, you call me, and I will come to you.
• We will accept and give constructive criticism to each other during group work.

Whenever you express your view on a subject, you've made a claim or an assertion. To be credible, an assertion needs to be proved.

Large-scale sporting events.

What do you know about large scale events?

Are defined as those one-time sporting events of an international scale organized by a special "authority" and yielding extremely high levels of media coverage and impacts (economic, tourism, infraestructure, etc.) for the host community because of the event's significance and/or size.The sucess of these events is often measured through tourism figures such as accommodation occupancy rates and hire car availability. Over the last thirty years, those events have become a popular vehicle for obtaining political, cultural and economic benefits(international recognition).
