Victimology - The Study of Harm

Victimology is the scientific study of the physical, emotional, and financial harm people endure because of illegal activities (Karmen, 2020).

The word "victim" was first associated with the notion of sacrifice.

Victimologists study the ways in which victims suffer, as well as the social reaction to them.

Victimization is all about loss, pain, and horror.

Secondary or indirect victims are not immediately involved but may suffer emotional consequences of the crime.

Direct or primary victims are those who experience the criminal act first hand.
