SECTION 02

Lab Rules

Science's purpose is to integrate the theoretical and practical aspects of each subject, through research. The laboratory work implies that students and teachers assume certain responsibilities, since it is a special place to carry out serious work. Your own safety and your partner’s safety is very important, so that any activity inside the laboratory just be supervised by a professor and will observe the following guidelines:

GENERAL PROVISIONS

  1. Students should use a white lab coat inside the laboratory. The lab coat must be embroidered in the left upper pouch (not on the bag); (it will be used clean, ironed and buttoned). If a student doesn't bring his own lab coat, he/she will enter to the lab session but will not participate in the practice work. As a consequence, this will have an impact on his/her grade and will work only on theoretical aspects.
  2. Each student will be admitted to participate in the lab session only if he/she brings the required material needed for the development of his work. Any object that is not for exclusive use for the laboratory, will be removed by the teacher (iPod's, cellphone, and any other material not required for the lab session).
  3. Inside the laboratory it is mandatory to preserve discipline, pay attention, and take the necessary precautions to avoid accidents that could have regrettable consequences.

4. It is forbidden to drink, eat and / or play inside the laboratory. 5. The use of the material, equipment, reagents, and facilities of the laboratories are the students responsibility; therefore, they must check them before beginning their work, please notify the teacher in case of any irregularity. Concluding his work, it should be departed in ideal conditions. The damaged material, equipment or reagents will be replaced by the student’s team, or in his fault, by the group, in a term of ffifteen days.6. The waste will have to be disposed of based on the teacher’s instructions. 7. No student can enter the laboratory warehouse without the teacher's authorization.

WORK INSIDE THE LABORATORY

  1. The laboratory work will be done in teams of 4 or 5 students.
  2. Every team will have his place of work assigned.
  3. Every member of the team will be in charge of a role during the lab practice: for example, to ask for material, cleanliness of material and desk, instruments manipulation, etc. The above mentioned responsibilities will be rotated between the members of the team.
  4. The student has the obligation to take a personal journal here he/she should describe, and write everything related to the practice.
  5. The development of the practice will be explained first by the teacher and then by the students.
  6. The teachers will supervise that every team develops and concludes his work.

Diagnostic

Answer the following questions, try to be as clear and concise as possible

  1. Biology is the science that studies the origin, evolution and characteristics of living beings. What does Physics study?
  2. Write two examples of physical phenomena.
  3. What is matter?
  4. What are the three states of aggregation of matter?
  5. What is the phase change in which an object or substance changes from a solid to a liquid called?
  6. Write three examples of trajectories that moving objects can follow
  7. What are the units of measurement of length and mass, in the International System of units (SI)?
  8. Given the measurement instruments mentioned below and the phenomena indicated, select the appropriate relationship according to the instrument needed to measure said phenomenon:
I. Dynamometer a) boiling waterII. flexometer b) Height of a child III. Thermometer c) The air inside a tire IV. Pressure gauge d) The force with which a box is pulled 9. Why do objects weigh less on the Moon than on Earth? 10. What are the planets of the solar system?

Last but not least

  • For the next class remember to bring the signed regulation stub. It will be part of your period grade
  • Remember to bring your lab coat properly marked, with your name embroidered above the left pocket.
