Economics

MONEY!!!

Jobs : The New England colonies had rocky soil, which was not suited to plantation farming, so the New England colonies depended on fishing, lumbering, and subsistence farming. Trade : American ships carried products such as lumber, tobacco, rice, and dried fish to Britain. In turn, the mother country sent textiles, and manufactured goods back to America.

More Economics

MORE MONEY!!!

Natural Resources - Lumber, Fish, Masts for the Royal Navy, and Turpentine were the main exports of the colony. The major natural resource was the forests. The timber in the region was used for masts and shipbuilding.Slavery - Lacking large-scale plantations, New England did not have the same level of demand for slave labor as the South. But slavery still existed there until well into the 19th century. Ships in Boston Seaport sailed enslaved Africans along the Atlantic.

Geography

WHERE WERE THEY?

Location

We are located near on the coast of the Atlantic Ocean and are near some friendly natives. The ground is rocky which makes it hard for farming. It covers Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Rhode Island. The New England Colonies' climate was a humid continental climate. This means they experienced all four seasons and had clearly distinguished warm summers (70-84 F) and cold, harsh winters (0-15 F). The region was known for regular rainfall during spring and summer and several feet of snowfall during the winter.

Religion

Experience Freedom of Religion

The main reason that the first colony, Plymouth, was started her was because of religion. Here you are free from the practices in England without having to blend into your new surroundings. You can be English and practice religion freely. Purtians are the majority of the population here. The New England colonies were established by two religious groups within the Puritan religion. These two groups consisted of two different sects of Puritanism: Separatist Puritans and Non-Separatist Puritans. Non-Separatist Puritans believed the church could be reformed and wanted to remain in the church.

Culture

Experience The Culture!

The population of our colonies are mostly puritans and seperatists. Only men for now but women can come too. John Smith founded our colony in 1620. Between all the chores, bible lesson, and schooling, children found time to just be kids. They played games like marbles, flying kites, bowling, ring toss, walking on stilts, having sack races, Blind Man's Bluff, and spinning tops. Because our fortunes are not dependent on plantations and slave labor, the northern colonies are in a more sustainable economic situation than those in the south. The New England colonies had very harsh winters and mild summers. This made the growing season only about five months long. Because the soil was rocky and the climate was often harsh, colonists in New England only farmed enough to feed their families.
