Places

The climate of Japan stays relatively the same. On the east side the summers are hot and humid, while on the west side it stays the same. During the winter the east side gets gold and has heavy snow on the seaside and in the mountains. The west side however they have moderately cold winters. Japans topography is mostly mountainous. Most of the region of Japan is made up of mountains including famous mountains like Mt. Fuji. Key locations of Japan are Mt. Fuji as mentioned before. Mt Fuji has been used for thousands of years by Japan to host its temples and has been used as a sacred symbol for Japan. An important city is Tokoyo. It is also the capital of Japan, which is the main reason it is so popular. Japan is made up of 47 prefectures. Prefuecture is basically their states. The names of the 47 prefectures are Tokyo, Hokkaido, Aomori, Akita, Iwate, Miyagi, Yamagata, Ibaraki, Tochigi, Fukushima, Totchigi, Chiba,, Saitama, Gunma, Kanagawa, Toyama, Niigata, Fukui, Ishikawa, Yamanashi, Nagano, Gifu, Aichi, Mie, Shizuoka, Shiga, Osaka, Kyoto, Nara, Wakayama, Tottori, Shimane, Okayama, Hiroshima, Yamaguchi, Tokushima, Kagawa, Ehime, Kochi, Fukuoka, Seaga, Nagasaki, Kumanoto, Oita, Miyazaki, Kagoshima, Okinawa.

Japanese history

Koreans came over to the island of japan and built the first Buddhist temples. Meaning that the Japanese descended from koreans. Jumping ahead to around the late 1200's when the mongol empire was in power they tried to attack the Japanes. The Japanese were out numbered 40,000 to 140,000. But they were saved by a "protecting wind" called the kamikaze. Leading the shinto religion being created.

Government

Governmemt type- Japan's government system is a Parliamentary Government with a Constitutional Monarchy. What this means is that they have a normal governing body but they still have an emperor. The emperor, however, does not have the power and is more like a figure - just like in England, with the king. Flag Symbolism - The Japanese flag is a very famous flag. It is known for its simplicity but the meaning behind it is very extraordinary. The red dot on the flag symbolizes the sun. Japan is known as the land of the rising sun, so this flag is a representation of that. Key Products: Japan's main export is electronic equipment and cars. The main companies are Toyota, Honda, Nissan, Mazda and Subaru. Trading Partners: The main trade partner for Japan is China. The United States is their second largest partner, with South Korea, Hong Kong and Thailand following. Economy: Japan has the third highest GDP. Their GDP is 4.9 trillion US dollars.

People

Who Lives There- When it comes to Japan's diversity, there isn't much. 97 to 98 percent of Japan's population is native. The main reason for this is due to lack of acceptance for others who immigrate here. What are they Called - The Japanese refer to themselves as Nihongo, which in English means "Japanese". Different Ethnicities in Japan- Like previously mentioned, the Japanese aren't fond of immigration to their country. This has limited immigration from other countries and has led to less diversity in ethnicities. Cultural Traits: Japan's cultural traits differ from the rest of the world. They are taught to respect their elders, know their role, to work in groups, to always try their best and to never give up. This is something that has been lost in many countries, including our own. We could learn from the way the Japanese are raised. Life Expectancy: Not surprisingly, Japan has the fourth highest life expectancy in the world. Their life expectancy is 84 years of age. This is largely because of a health diet and lifestyle.

The other religions that are signifigantly smaller in Japan are: Chrstianity: 1.5% Judiasm, Islam, Hinduism, etc: 6.2%.

Sushi

While Japan is certainly the sushi capital of the world – and responsible for introducing the dish to travelers – sushi traces its origins back to a Chinese dish called narezushi. This dish consisted of fermented rice and salted fish. And, despite what you may think, it wasn’t fermented and salted for flavor. The dish’s earliest known origin was in the 2nd century BC – so it predates refrigerators by nearly 2,000 years.

Takoyaki

Takoyaki is believed to have been invented in 1935 by a street vendor from Osaka named Tomekichi Endo. Since then, takoyaki’s popularity has spread beyond Osaka and can be found in many regions across Japan. Because of this, many different variations of takoyaki have been created. Such as classic cabbage, cheese, chicken, crab or octopus.

Ramen

Ramen was created all the way back in the early 19th century when Chinese immigrants brought over the Idea of a soupy noodle and mixed it with Japanese culture, and it turned into what we know today.
