Content-based instruction
Write a subtitle here
It is based on the assumptions that:
You learn a language more successfully when you use it as a way of acquiring information, rather than just concentrating on the language itself.
It reflects the learners’ needs for learning the language
Content provides a coherent framework for linking all of the language skills.
Language is taught as a secondary objective while students are learning a different subject matter, such as math or history.

Task-based instruction
Just exactly what a task is can sometimes be unclear – but basically a task is:
Something that learners do using their existing language
Has an outcome other than just learning language
Involves a focus on meaning
In tasks with 2 or more learners, they must use communication strategies and interactional skills
PRODUCT-BASED APPROACHES

Text-Based Instruction
TEXT - BASED
* Designing units of work which focus on developing skills in relation to whole texts.
Providing students with guided practice
*Teaching explicitly about the structures and grammatical features of spoken and written texts
*
.
Text-based, or genre-based instruction involves becoming skilled with different types of texts. It involves:
*Linking spoken and written texts to the cultural context of their use
COMPETENCY BASED INSTRUCTION
This approach is often used in programs with students who have a very clear need for the language – i.e. ESP courses. It starts by identifying the tasks a learner will carry out in a specific setting (restaurant worker, nurse, etc.) and then specifying the language demands of those tasks. The competencies are then identified and make up the basis for the course.
