Rigid Transformations are moving all across the grid!
Transformations that do not change the size or shape of the image are rigid transformations.
Rigid transformations occur when you move shapes around when translating, reflecting, and/or rotating a figure.
Corresponding parts are equal in the original and resulting image after a rigid transformation.

A translation slides a figure without turning it.
Translations move in a linear direction right, left, up, and/or down The original figure and image are CONGRUENT after a translation

A rotation turns a figure around a center of rotation. A rotation can be clockwise or counter clockwise A rotation will have an angle of degrees The original figure and image are CONGRUENT after a translation

Congruent means two figures are the same size and shape. Congruent figures will have corresponding sides and angles. If a rigid transformation or a series of rigid transformations are performed the two figures are congruent.

Transformations and Congruence in the real world??
Transformations in your home! One way transformations take place in my house every day is when I sit in my work chair. I spin (rotate) back and forth a lot and I slide (translate) as I get up and down. Challenge!! Think of some transformations in your own home.
Congruence in real life!One way congruence takes place in the real world is at a print shop. Think about a book you are reading. All the pages are the same size and shape! Challenge!! Think of some other examples of congruence in real life.
