Materials
By now you should have received your science kit. In there will be a variety of materials that we will be using throughout the school year. This will also include your science workbook. The workbook will be used in every single lesson and will contain 2 pages of notes for each class. Your science kit should include: construction paper, hand towels, graph paper, starlight mint pack, beneath our feet, dry beans, box of paper clips, fossil study kit, dry rice, geode kit, hazards and humans, plastic cutlery set, 2 aluminum pie pans, colored pencils, and a super tatster test kit. If you do not have these materials, please call Phillips to have them sent: 833-204-2221
What time is my class?
Depending on your schedule, you will have science for 1st or 3rd period.
Class times:
- 8:10am to 9:00 am
- 10:30am to 11:20am
Make sure to refer to your calendar for Edio. All of your classes and meetings will be shown there.

Extra Credit
I do not typically offer extra credit in the form of "extra work." Sometimes I will offer bonus points for the winner of a review game or spontaneously in a lesson, depending on participation. The reason there isn't much extra credit is that all students have the option to redo their work. Rather than doing more work, you can have lessons reset that were submitted blank. You can also complete a retake for an assessment. This includes quizzes, assignments, and projects. A retake is a modified version of an assessment. Retakes allow you another opportunity to master skills you may have missed the first time around. Retakes are one and done so please be sure to review your first attempted assessment to understand the material you missed the first time.
Daily Classes
4 out of 5 days of classes will be guided. Guided classes follow the lessons in Edio but are presented through a virtual presentation. These are the lessons you can submit blank when you attend and participate. Wayground (formerly Quizizz) is an interactive PowerPoint that includes all of the main points from the Edio lesson and typically has additional resources and interactive activities. Live lesson days will vary. These are lessons that I personally come up with that will relate to what we are learning in some way. Sometimes they are simulations, review games, or escape rooms. Typically these will have the content in the lesson as a link and will have an exit ticket to complete or I will check your work through the activity's website.

Contact
You can send me a chat through Edio chat, a webmail, or we can set up a meeting to work 1 on 1. My bookings link will have times that I am available. If you want to meet, it is easiest to go right to the link and choose a time to meet and I will add it to your Edio calendar. If none of the times shown work, please send me a message so we can work out a time. If you make a meeting, please show up to it. Both your and my time is valuable and it would be a waste to not show up. If you are unable to meet, please send a message before your meeting time.
I'm Confused
If you don't understand something during the lesson, say something!!! If you have a question, it's very possible someone else has the same one. Coming on the mic is always welcomed, but if you prefer anonymity, feel free to send me a private message in Zoom so I can answer it then and there. If you are not in class, please watch the recording to see if I already answered your question. If it still isn't answered, send me a chat or set up a meeting to go over it. "I don't know" is not an acceptable response. Reach out to me so I can help you first!
Assessments
The Science 8 course has quizzes, assignments, and projects. More often than not, a unit will have at least 2 quizzes, and 1 assignment. Assignments are worth 15%, Quizzes are 25%, and Projects are 25%. Assessments are worth 65% of your grade and will make a big impact on your overall grade. You can view each units assessments in the Syllabus tab of the course.
Participation
The best thing about CCA is our flexibility. Students have the option to join the zoom and work with the teacher and other students on the lesson or work asynchronously and complete the work on your own. Throughout my 5 years at CCA, I have found that students who join and participate in class end up with A's and B's. Those who do not join can still earn A's and B's, but it requires a bit more discipline. When you join the zoom for class, you are required to participate in the Wayground. If you do not actively participate in class, you may not turn your Edio lesson in blank. Class is supposed to be a fun and interactive learning time during your day. What you put into the class is what you get out of it.
