The Search Process

Where to find the source?

Is the source credible?

What are you looking for?

What source is used?

You can't use every source of information you find. We need to test the credibility of sources using C.R.A.A.P test.

LTUC E-library Search engines (google, google scholar) Academic articles

Select keywords based on search problem and task analysis

Identification of sources of information (primary, secondary, and triple)

Example

Examine the fundamentals of cloud computing in relation to areas of application, architecture and platform.

  • What to search for?
  • What source to use?
  • Where to find the source?
  • Is this source credible?

Any Questions?

Thank you

Examine the fundamentals of cloud computing in relation to areas of application, architecture and platform.
  • Sources: Secondary sources.
  • Where to find the sources: Academic journals.Example: https://link.springer.com/chapter/10.1007/978-3-030-13134-0_2
  • Credibility of the source: it should meet the CRAAP Test.

C.R.A.A.P Test

  • Currancy-: Check when the source published the information and whether the content has been updated. Sources published in the last 10 years are accepted for research papers on arts, humanities, literature or history. But if you write in the fields of science, technology, finance, education and social sciences, look for the sources published in the last two or three years.
  • Relevance: Make sure the source is relevant to your research article
  • Authority:Make sure the source is relevant to your research article. Make sure that the source author is qualified to write about a subject. Another aspect you should consider is the source's URL.
  • Accuracy: Ensure that the information is supported by evidence and peer review. In addition, find sources with neutral language and free from spelling and grammatical errors.
  • Purpose::Consider the reason for the existnace of the information. If there are any biases in the source, it may not be credible.
Types of Sources

There are many different types of sources, which can be divided into three categories: primary sources, secondary sources, and tertiary sources.
