Connecticut Appraiser Experience and Education Requirements

CertifiedGeneral Appraiser (RCG)
Certified Residential Appraiser (RCR)
Provisional Appraiser (RSP)

If new criteria are in effect when you are ready to upgrade or renew, then you should adhere to the new criteria.

Provisional Appraiser

(RSP)

College Education: None Appraisal Education: Must complete required courses — USPAP, Appraisal Practices, Appraisal Procedures and the CT Appraisal Law module. Experience: None Examination: None, but must pass appraisal course exams

Certified Residential Appraiser

(RCR)

College Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in any field
  • Associates degree in Business, Administration, Accounting, Finance, Economics or Real Estate
  • Specific 30 semester hours  (3 credit hour classes)
  • CLEP Exam   
  • Combination of 3 credit hour classes and the CLEP exam
Appraisal Education: 200 hours of  Qualifying Appraisal education Experience:1500 hours in minimum of 12  Months Examination: AQB Certified  Residential

Certified General Appraiser

(RCG)

College Education: Bachelor's degree or higher ONLY Appraisal Education: 300 Hours of pre-licensing courses Experience: 3,000 Hours in a minimum of 18 Months  AND at least 1500  hours are non-residential Examination: AQB Certified  General
