With time it deteriorated and the "Land" was taken down, but in the late 70s it was restored and maintained to what it is known today as "Hollywood".

The first motion picture studio in US history was Edison's Black Maria in the 1920s

Two main events marked the beginnings of the golden era : The first was the introduction of sound in cinema with films like The Jazz Singer released in 1927. The second development was Technicolor which allowed films to be shot in color.

"In Old California" is a silent film that lasts around 17 minutes. It was directed by D.W. Griffith for Biography Company. This movie is about a love story that takes place before Mexican independence was proclaimed in California, which occurred in 1822.

Later on real-estate magnate H.J. Whitley transformed Hollywood into a popular residential area. Around 1919, Hollywood became part of the city of Los Angeles.

The top prize in 1929 went to "Wings", an airplane film similar to one of this year's best picture nominees, Top Gun: Maverick. It was a dinner party for around 250 people , and the ceremony lasted around 15 minutes.
