How to take good notes in Nursing school
2. Keep your notes short Write down the things you don't already know. Keep it a short summary. Use abbreviations for words where you can. Focus on the main points and create an outline format.
1. Decide on the best strategy-Paper or digital Most of us can type faster than we can write, however research shows people retain information more when they handwrite it. If you do digital notes in class, make it a practice to rewrite your notes by hand after class.
4. Think while you write Make sure you keep your brain engaged while you write. Think about more than the words your instructor is saying. Think about why they are saying them and what themes are presenting from their lecture that you need to know and understand.
3. Be organized Write neatly or consider rewriting your notes later. Organization is important. Number your pages and identify the topic at the top of your notes.

Reading
Students often dismiss completing their reading as not worth their time. This however, is a grave mistake in nursing school. Best case: Read the chapters and note most important concepts. Next better case: Skim the readings and take note of most important concepts. Worst case: Not reading at all. You set yourself up to fail.

Tips for maximizing in class learning
Participate in class! Listen for answers to questions you've come up with during your readings, Don't try to write word-for-word. Minimize distractions around you...Jot down worries with a time you'll address them later. Cornell Method of Note Taking consists of 2 columns and a summary. Study Strategies
After Class
It is important to take what you've learned in class and link it with what you read before class. Create a study tool that organizes & simplifies the information.
Distributed Practice-This utilizes periods of rest or separation when studying topics. When we cram, we just saw the item so we aren't retrieving it from memory,
Retrieval-A self-quizzing study strategy that can use many different formats.
Interleaving-If you're studying Monday and Thursday, rather than studying 1 subject each day, spend a chunk of time on each subject on both days.
Study Strategies
To Teach it is to know it!
Remediate on your exams and explain why you chose the wrong answer.
Explain to yourself or others, the information you learned.
Connect, Extend, Challenge-Ask yourself: How are ideas related to what I already know, how did my learning extend, and what is still challenging?
Try to explain the rationales for the incorrect and correct answers.
Write your own exam questions on the content you will be tested on.
If I were to paraphrase what we learned today, I would say...
