Calakmul is a Maya archaeological site in the Mexican state of Campeche, deep in the jungles of the greater Petén Basin region. It is 35 kilometres from the Guatemalan border. Calakmul was one of the largest and most powerful ancient cities ever uncovered in the Maya lowlands. Calakmul was a major Maya power within the northern Petén Basin region of the Yucatán Peninsula of southern Mexico.

The district’s yearly temperature is 28.78ºC (83.8ºF) and it is 6.75% higher than Mexico’s averages. Calakmul typically receives about 116.92 millimeters (4.6 inches) of precipitation and has 154.44 rainy days (42.31% of the time) annually.

Calakmul has two very marked seasons:Hot seasons and rainy seasons. Therefore, from June to December we recommend wearing long-sleeved clothing and from January to May cool clothing

Becán is the third most important archaeological site in Campeche. It is located 10 km from Xpujil. The entrance price is 70 pesos. take sunscreen

Chicanná was a Maya town. The site was named after its most famous building, Structure II, which means "House of the Serpent Mouth" in Mayan. It is located 12 km from Xpujil. The entrance price is 60 pesos. take sunscreen

• Calakmul

Calakmul is the most important site in Campeche. It is located 120 km from Xpujil. The entrance price is 272 pesos. It is very important to bring food

• Balamkú.

Gastronomy

Another reason to visit Calakmul, besides its tourist attractions, is its delicious gastronomy. Local food combines pre-Hispanic traditions and flavors, where Spanish and Caribbean cuisine converges. The typical dishes are Coconut Shrimp, Pan de Cazón (Dogfish Bread), Pickled Pompano, or Panucho. Do not miss the shrimp in one of its numerous presentations, coconut shrimp, breaded shrimp, and shrimp with garlic.
