History of Psychology

  • Psychology didn’t have any development in the time of Ancient Greeks.
  • It didn’t even have a name.
  • It was an offshoot of biology and physics.

GREEK PHILOSOPHY

  • Many paradigms were created that explain why we have different approaches in psychology nowadays.
  • Psychoanalysis started to experiment on conscious and unconscious behaviors, specially Freud and Carl Jung.
  • The iceberg analogy was craeted.
  • Pavlov and B.F. Skinner studied stimulus-response relationships

1900s

  • Sociocultural psychology was developed.
  • Brain imagery was born.
  • MRI scanners allowed humanity to see a brain for the first time.
  • Cognitive neuroscience was really important during this time

1970s

  • In this year cognitive psychology was developed.
  • Psychology started to be an experimental science.
  • In 1876 Whilem Wundt opened a psychology laboratory at the University of Leipzig.
  • Whilem Wund was seen as the father of experimental psychology.

1800s

  • This moment was critical for cognitive psychology, as they started studying human mind processes like memory, thought processes, decisions, emotions and many more.
