THE Amendment 22
THe preidential term limit
By: Ameris Villarreal
THe day it became a amendment and the meaning.
The 22nd amendment ratificatian process was completed on February 27, 1951, 3 years and 343 day after it was sent to the states. The meaning of the 22th amendment is that a person can't be elected to the office of the president for no more than two terms.
The reason why it was created.
How we use the 22nd amendment to this day.
The reason why it was created was because Roosevelt’s decision to break the precedent set by George Washington that was made in July 1940, as the United States neared its entry into World War II. The third-term decision dominated his election campaign against the Republican contender, Wendell Wilkie. In the end, Roosevelt won the election by a wide margin, and he was able to win a fourth election in 1944. But the popular fallout about the concept of a long-term president led to the ratification of the 22nd amendment in 1951. It's why they stated that no person shall be elected to the office of the President for no more than two terms. Also adding that no person who has held the office of President, or acted as President, can't go for more than two years of a term. Which some other people that get elected President shall be elected to the office of the President more than once,” the amendment read, in a clear reference to Roosevelt.
We use this amendment to make sure that there's a balance. But to also not let people who is the president at the time become greedy or take avantage of the position he/ she / they are in.
thanks
