Turista vs. visitante

TOURIST VS. VISITOR

En el documento “Conceptos básicos de turismo” reproducido por el Consejo de Promoción Turística de México, se identifican cuatro diferentes definiciones para lo que nosotros podríamos llamar “turista”.​ // Inside document "Basic concepts of Tourism" we can identify four different definitions for what we will call a tourist.

• Viajeros​

Es la definición más amplia de todas y de esta se desprenden el resto. Cualquier persona que se encuentre realizando un viaje (por cualquier motivo) entre dos lugares geográficamente distintos y fuera de su entorno habitual, es correcto llamarlo viajero. Personas que se establecen en otro lugar por trabajo, refugiados, diplomáticos o migrantes no son viajeros.​

Visitantes / visitors

Personas que viajan a un destino principal distinto al de su lugar de residencia, por una duración inferior a un año, con cualquier propósito, excepto aquel que implique ser empleado por una organización establecida en dicho lugar o país. Pueden ser nacionales cuando viajan dentro de su mismo país e internacionales cuando lo hace fuera de su país de origen.​ De este término se desprenden dos: turistas y excursionistas.

Turista / Tourist

Un turista es un visitante, con la condición que debe pernoctar en el destino, esto es, que se quede por al menos 24 horas, pero como ya se menciono antes, no más de 1 año; los motivos pueden ser personales, profesionales o de negocios. ​

Excursionist

Al igual que el turistas, todo excursionista es un viajero, pero aquí la condición radica en que durante su viaje no deben pernoctar en el destino, o lo que es igual, no deben durar más de 24 horas ahí. Para efectos estadísticos, los excursionistas normalmente son personas que viajan a ciudades fronterizas, ya sea en su propio vehículo o en cruceros, a destinos de costa.

TOUR GUIDES

• A tourist guide is the "face of a country", an ambassador of the culture that is visited, is the "spokesperson" of the tangible and intangible assets of the nation or a specific space.​

General skills of a tour guide

The profile of a tour guide brings together a set of knowledge and characteristics that are considered necessary for the performance of their profession.​Interpret heritage and assets of cultural interest, natural spaces and other assets in the scope of action for tourists and visitors.​ Provide accompaniment and assistance services to tourists and visitors, design tourist itineraries. Communicate in a foreign language other than the mother tongue, at a competent level.​

Training and acreditation

*Take a 250-hour training course organized by SECTUR​ *Accredit general knowledge exam (theoretical and practical). *Specialized guides must take an exam related to the topic or location in which they specialize.​ Pass an exam of a second language other than the mother tongue with a score greater than 80%​

Su tarea es el asesoramiento a los turistas que visitan un lugar sobre los recursos y actividades que pueden encontrar. Es un trabajo multidisciplinar de lo que parece a simple vista, pues va desde ofrecer información, hasta la promoción de un determinado territorio, pasando por el asesoramiento a proyectos turísticos o la planificación de rutas de viaje adecuadas a las necesidades o expectativas tanto de los turistas como del territorio donde ejerce su actividad.
