Rhythm
The Pulse/Beat
The heartbeat of music. It can be fast or slow but it remains steady. Musicians use a device called a Metronome to help keep the beat at a specific speed(tempo) while singing or playing.
Rhythm
Grouping of musical sounds in time by means of stress and duration. It creates patterns of long and short sounds.
Notes
Notation is the use of written symbols to represent musical sounds in time. Keep the following principles in mind:
- Different types of notes have different parts: note head, stem and flag .
- Note heads on whole notes and half notes are never filled in.
- Whole notes, half notes and quarter notes do not have flags

Dotes and Ties
How do musicains extend the duration of note and rests.Lesson 5
Dotes
In music, a dot (•) adds one-half of the value of the note or rest to the note or rest.
Ties
A tie is a curved line connecting two or more notes of the same pitch indicating that the durational values of the notes are to be added together. For example, if a half note is tied to a quarter note, then the note is held for three beats.
