dialogue

chorus

All my life They been trying to keep me down They been tryna keep me down All this time I never thought I would make it out Never thought I'd make it out They couldn't break me, they couldn't break me No, no They couldn't take me, they couldn't take me No All my life They been trying to keep me down They been tryna keep me down

Anna: You know, all my life they've been trying to keep me down. Just felt like every time I tried to get ahead, something pushed me back. Mike: I can relate to that. I often felt the same, especially during school. But remember the times you felt you wouldn't make it out of a tough situation, yet here you are. Anna: True. There were so many times I thought I'd break. But I didn't. They couldn't break me. Mike: That's the spirit! And it's proof that no matter how tough things get, you have the strength to push through. Anna: Thanks, Mike. We should always remember that they can try, but they can't take our spirit.
