The Saxon KingBy 950 England seemed rich and peaceful again, but the Danish Vikings started raiding. The Saxon King decided to pay the vikings to stay away. To find the money he set a tax on all his people called Danegeld,a regular tax system of the people wich would provide the money for armies.
King Harold The witans chose Harold as the new King of England. Harold was faced by two dangers, one in the south and one in the north. The Danish vikings had not given up their clam to the English throne. Harold was defeated and killed in battle.
King Alfred Only king held out against the vikings , he was a strong enough to make a treat y with the vikings. He had build walled settlements to keep out the Danes, called burghs. Alfred also reorganised the army and divided his army into two parts. He wrote a new set of laws and did much to encourage leaning. At Alfred´s court a school was a set up for noble and royal children.
king William William was crowed King of England in Edward´s new church of Westminster Abbey on Christmas Day in 1066, a new period had begun.

"The Confessor "Edward encouraged the condtruction of churches.He started a new church fit for a king at westminster. Edward had brougth many Normans to his English court from france were not liked by more powerful Saxon nobles.
