- Host Names are located on Active Directory (AD),
- Normally a Host Name can be deactivated and moved to a Folder in Active Directory, in case has to be reactivated Ticket must be sent to Local IT to perfom reactivation in AD.
- Eg.
AD path : cw01.contiwan.com/lda/ro/tma1/DSDesktop/DSDesktop01/tmd4612w

Windows Installation
If you ever receive a call saying to prepare a Computer for a new employee that means, that Windows 10 must be installed with the Conti image, so Ticket must be submitted to the Local IT Team containing the hostname or serial number of the machine. If the user has an SSD and wants Windows installed on it that must be mentioned in the ticket as well.

Client De- & Re-activation
How does local IT deactivate and reactivate computers?
Deactivation and reactivation is done in Active Directory
There are different directories for every location
These directories contain all the active clients from that location
Each location has a special folder in AD > “DSLaptop99/DSDesktop99”
If they want to deactivate a laptop/desktop they simply move the device to the ““DSLaptop99” or “DSDesktop99” directory (and vice versa when they want to enable it)
Notebooks, Desktops, Virtual Machines and Special PCs
In Continental every machine, VM or special PC have a specific name given by its location, type and operating system. The hostnames always contain 8 digits and are given by each Local IT and may vary from location to location.
- First 2 letters are related to Location
- Third Letter tells you device type (Desktop, Laptop, Server, Virtual machine)
- Next 3 or 4 digits is part of the serial number
- W means that computer is Windows.
Special PC (Shopfloor)
Continental has desktops that are used in production or for different projects. Those desktops are using Windows OS clients as well but different versions. We don’t have any rights on those desktops and the ticket must be forwarded to Local IT Team.
- Shopfloor PC´s Hostname end usually in “M”, “N” or “S”
E.g. FRDMN56M or RBD018DN
Linux OS Installation & Linux hostnames
Client OS Linux
Continental also uses Linux OS, it can be installed directly on the desktop/laptop by Local IT team or a VM can be requested. SD agents have no rights on the Linux clients.
