and or but
Do you know what they have in common?
And, or, but are conjunctions. What is a conjunction? A conjunction is a word that connects 2 or more words, phrases or clauses together. Example: Mary loves cookies and muffins.
joins "cookies" and "muffins" together
There are 3 types of conjunctions: coordinating subordinating correlative
Correlative or paired conjunctions connect two related ideas. Example: You either learn how to be a team player or work alone all the time.
Like socks, correlative conjunctions always come in pairs. That’s their defining characteristic. Some common correlative conjunction pairs are: either/or neither/nor not only/but
Either... or (to connect two choices). Examples:
My brother is either playing video games or writing music on his PC.
Either Reyna pushes the button or Abed pushes it.
