Rosenquist's Marilyn Monroe
Read the text.
"James Rosenquist painted this inverted and fragmented portrait of Marilyn Monroe just following her unexpected death in 1962. Like fellow Pop artist Andy Warhol, Rosenquist transformed Marilyn’s iconic image. But whereas Warhol used well-known photographs of the celebrity sex symbol repetitiously, Rosenquist chose to present her in a manner that denied immediate recognition, while preserving her coquettishness. He achieved this by breaking apart her eyes, lips, and hand, reassembling the pieces into a seemingly random configuration, and boldly overlaying letters that are themselves fragments of her name.'' Bright Colors
Pop art uses bright colors highly because of its ability to grab the attention quickly. Pop Art is often characterised by bold colours, particularly the primary colours: red, blue and yellow. These colors are highly present in the works of Roy Lichtenstein.

Ben-Day dots
This technique was developed by illustrator and printer Benjamin Henry Day. It is characterized by dots, effects, parallel and wavy lines. In printing Ben-Day dots, four main colors are used: cyan, magenta, yellow and black. To create the appearance of more colors and shades, the colors are printed in small dots that are closer together, far apart or overlapping. Ben-Day dots are commnly seen in comics, Roy Lichtenstein’s artworks.

Collage
Collages are a popular pop art technique used to combine graphic elements including photos, text, textures, advertising, magazine pages, and comic book cutouts. Pop art artists used collages to make cultural and artistic statements by combining a variety of different elements to play on the main consumerism themes.

Screen Printing
Screenprint techniques such as silkscreen printing and lithography were used by famous artists like Andy Warhol and Roy Lichtenstein to achieve signature pop art looks. 1) Screen printing consists in transferring ink onto a blank canvas or paper. 2) Lithography consists in printing onto a metal plate or stone using grease and water.

All the pop art arworks are colourful. * Discover the vocabulary of colours by finding the words in the grid.
