Inversion for emphasis with negativeadverbials

Negative adverbials are words like; little, rarely, in no way, on no account, no sooner ... than, never, and at no time. Los adverbios negativos son palabras como; poco, rara vez, de ninguna manera, en ningún caso, no antes... que, nunca, y en ningún momento. In formal written English, when we want to add emphasis to sentences, we can add a negative adverbial to the start of the sentence and invert the word order of the subject and auxiliary. En el inglés formal escrito, cuando queremos agregar énfasis a las oraciones, podemos agregar un adverbial negativo al comienzo de la oración e invertir el orden de las palabras del sujeto y auxiliar.

Example: I have rarely met anyone like you. Rarely have I met anyone like you. Example: We had never been so happy. Never had we been so happy.

Inversion for emphasis with negativeadverbials

When there is no auxiliary verb in the original sentence, we need to use the auxiliary DO. Cuando no hay un verbo auxiliar en la oración original, necesitamos usar el auxiliar DO. Example: He rarely understands. Rarely does he understand.

We use no sooner with past perfect and than. Usamos el "no sooner" con el past perfect y el than Example: As soon as we had arrived, it started to rain. No sooner had we arrived than it started to rain.
