- Are also known as: progressive verbs, continuous verbs, actions verbs. - They usually involve an action or an active process: to play; to eat; to speak. - They are used in continuous forms: I am playing with my friends; she was eating dinner with her parents; I have been learning English for a long time.

- They talk about states, emotions , possessions and situations/conditions that continue for a long time: she wants to be a succesful lawyer; I think she would be a good lawyer. - They are NOT used in the continuous forms.
