Tu vs usted
VS
We use usted to say "you" in a formal way, i.e when talking to a person you do not know or elderly people. It is also a way to show respect.
We use tú to say "you" informally, i.e when talking to a friend, a person we know well, a child, and young people in general.
Which Spanish-Speaking Countries Use Vos?
Some say that countries that predominantly use vos were geographically isolated during colonial times, whereas countries that hardly use it – Mexico, Cuba, Peru, and the DR – had better communications with Spain during colonization..
