content curation learning design
The process of collecting and filtering information (Neelakandan, 201)
What is Content Curation?
- Ensures that the learner can access the information they need quickly and in an organised system
- Saves time by ensuring the necessary information is available
- Filtered to enable the learning to take place without cognitive overload
Impact on Digital Learning
Short bursts of information allow the learner to take on learning 'just in time', and also to develop further learning on areas of interest and improve comprehension. (Neelakandan, 2019)

Aggregating
Storing
Add titles, links scenarios to the information to show how it can be applied
The information must be stored appropriately so it can be accessed when needed
Ensure the learners can access this at the right time
Put the information into an easy logical order
Remove information that is unnecessary.
Find out if it met the needs of the learners, iterate if required
Collect all the information on the topic
Trend Rationale
Application to my Current Practice
Current practice: Teaching teenagers in schools Current issues: A large cohort of students who struggle to engage in a traditional classroom environment, use of mobile devices is addictive and a distraction. How to engage: Teenagers are used to 'passively' using social media platforms where scrolling through the next quick video/ game is very easy and addictive. Based on research: Learners from Generation Y prefer eLearning through social networking, podcasts and mobile application (Arshavskiy, 2017). Application of content curation: Design a learning pathway, through curating content, that the students access but allows for self-developed learning to improve the comprehension and motivation. This should be supported by teacher led, student led and hands on application of the knowledge and skills learnt
As a commonly used tool in Marketing, where the user is drawn into selecting the next program, song, similar item to buy, content curation is a great trend to encourage learners to spend a few minutes learning a skill and to be drawn into similar learning topics. By drawing the learner into other similar topics in short bursts helps to motivate the learner giving a positive digital learning experience and motivates the user to self develop and engage with the content.

Content Creation Vs Curation
- Curation involves gathering other information and organising it so that it appeals to your reader.
- Curation is commonly used in marketing e.g.
- Retail websites will recommend 'other products you may like'
- Instagram will tease you into similar images you have liked
- TV channels will recommend other shows to you based on your viewings
- Curation of Content has always been a part of eLearning. Taking information from SME's and organising it into a useful format for the learner
- Created Content should be the foundation of learning 'the spark that ignites the fire' (Virtual College, 2018)
- Creation is creating your own resources to deliver to the learner.
Using Content Curation in eLearning will:
- Aid the learner to develop their own independent learning
- Allows quick learning interactions when needed
- Motivate the learning to fully comprehend the subject matter
