Since the beginnings of philosophy, Greek mythology has always been the mirror in which humanity has looked at itself, and in which it has projected its desires. Because that's why the wise men of Ancient Greece created myths: To instruct and inspire. Daedalus and Icarus are two figures with very valid reflections on paternity, the desire for knowledge and the ancestral aspiration of the human being to fly. The reported achievements of Daedalus, Athens' most skilled architect and inventor, are almost providential. According to myth, he was famous for inventing ships that sailed under the sea, and he came to compete with his disciple Talos, who ended up becoming a better inventor than himself. This fact aroused the envy and unease of Icarus, which led Daedalus to push Talos from the roof of the Acropolis, out of love for his son. As in all myths, human passions cause dramatic reactions in the characters, to emphasize the message. The pursuit of knowledge and invention is a race in which you either come first or lose. Centuries later, this same philosophy was followed by brothers whose determination to fly would lead them to be the first. In the words of Wilbur Wright: "Men become wise, as well as rich, more by what they keep than by what they receive..”

Daedalus and his son Icarus were forced into exile on Crete to avoid being punished for Talos's death. There, under the commission of King Minos, Daedalus built a labyrinth to lock up the Minotaur, a monster half man and half bull. But Minos, so that nobody knew how to get out of it, also locked up Daedalus and Icarus. They were locked up there for a long time. Today is a day to say thanks to Daedalus, thanks to Wilbur, thanks to the fathers of aviation, and of course, thanks to the fathers of pilots, for making this dream possible.
