A stereotype is a preconceived idea people have of a person which is not necessarily true. It can be based on someone’s physical appearance or personality. For example, it is a stereotype to assume that every cheerleader is mean and is only interested in clothes. A clique is a group of teenagers in high school who are together because they have the same interests or the same background. A clique is often defined by its hobby: jocks only like sports and are noisy, while geeks are quiet and spend a lot of time on their computers.

The students at Javier’s school are jocks who are sporty and athletic, but they can be good at school too. There are also cheerleaders, who are loud, energetic, and athletic. There are also artists, who are creative and relaxed, and geeks, who can be stressed, but also studious. Geeks are enthusiastic about what they like. There are also skaters, who are easy-going. Javier is a jock because he plays football, and a geek because he wants to join the coding club.
